Junior Infants: Term 3 Review

We are finished our last term of Junior Infants. I would like to congratulate all the children on working so hard all year. It has been a pleasure teaching such wonderful boys and girls and I wish them every success in Senior Infants.

Here are some photographs of our last term;

SESE: We investigated the best materials to use to build the three little pigs houses. We also had our annual Science Day.

Arts: We continued to work on the theme of the Garden Centre. In May, we focused on the theme of Animals for Aistear and set up a veterinary surgery in our role play area. We also had a small world and water play section. As part of Aistear, we created various farm and jungle animals. For June, our theme was summer. In our role play area, the children were working in the travel agents. We also had small world, construction and water/sand play.

PE: We held Active School Week the last week of school. We did lots of activities – we did 8 or more laps of the parish field per child, we did zumba dancing with Ms. Nooney and irish dancing with Ms. Mullally. We also had dancing every morning in the hall.

Fun Day: The 6th class pupils held a Fun Day to raise money for their recent trip to Delphi. The children enjoyed buying toys and treats and playing the various games organised.

School Tour: For our school tour, we went to Caragh Open Farm on Tuesday 28th of June. The children really enjoyed seeing the various animals and playing in the playgrounds. On Wednesday 29th of June, each class got a session of Playball and then the three classes came together for a little party.

After a small hiccup with the rain Monday morning our whole school dance got the week of to a great start with a rousing rendition of the Hokey Cokey. Tuesday`s song was Shake it up, Wednesday`s was Superman. It is great to see all the teachers and pupils dancing together. Parents are also invited to join in on Friday morning.

Monday saw 4th, 5th and 6th complete a taster lesson in Karate taught by Sensai Kieran Mullen and judging by reports it was “excellent” and 2I`m joining this when I go home”.

3rd class completed a taster session in Hurling taught by Kieran Ryan and they really enjoyed it.

The teachers also got involved with a Zumba class organised for after school.

On Tuesday 4th and 6th did Hip Hop taught by Vicky Barry. 3rd and 4th travelled by bus to Naas Hockey club and 3rd travelled to Naas tennis club. Every single activity was amazing and the pupils really enjoyed themselves.

Tuesday also saw 2 teams compete in a blitz in Hawkfield and our Hurling team also played a match.

On Wednesday Junior Infants had a Zumba class taught by Sinead Nooney, 1st got a taste of gymnastics and 5th and 2nd got to enjoy a soccer lesson.

We have 8 different activities planned for Thursday so lets hope the weather stays fine.

The walking at lunchtime is working very well with some students managing 7 laps of the parish field today.

Some photos of the week so far are attached.

Active Schools Week timetable

Active School Week is next week 27th May-31st May. We have 40 different activities planned for the various classes as well as whole school dance every morning and walking at lunch time. Hopefully we will get the weather. Parents are invited to attend any of the lunch time walks and also the whole school dance on Friday 31st at 9.20 in the yard. It is a great opportunity to get children active and we would encourage pupils to make a special effort to be active this week and hopefully gain some good habits for life. Please find the timetable for the week attached. As you can see it is bursting with activity.

Photos of the different activities will be uploaded during the week as well as different pupils reactions.
