December update in second class C
Hello everyone, here is an update on some of our activities last month!
In Science in December we did further work on our design and make skills. This month we used toothpicks to design a skyscraper! We had great fun planning in groups and then we start the fun part of constructing our pieces! We talked about how we could make our constructions balance better. It was great fun.
In art this month we created Christmas cribs. We were so proud of our art this month. See above for other pictures! ![IMG_9738[1]](http://caraghns.scoilnet.ie/blog/files/2016/02/IMG_97381-300x225.jpg)
In Drama this month we acted out the play “The Revenge of Granny Hood “. We had great fun reading out all the parts and getting into character. Here is a picture of some of our oscar winning performances.
Thank you all for attending our Christmas carol service. We really enjoyed performing our song and our poem.
Junior Infants A: December Review
December Review
Welcome back! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas break and I’d like to wish you a Happy New Year. We had a very busy month in December preparing for Christmas. Here are some of the things we have been learning.
English:
We discussed the topic of Christmas. We continued to learn our Jolly Phonics sounds. We read the stories “The Three Little Pigs”, “When Santa Turned Green”, “Santa’s Littlest Helper”, “The Fourth King” and “Santa’s Sleigh is on its way to Ireland”. We learned the poem “When Santa Got Stuck up the Chimney” and performed it at our Carol Service. We continued to practice our writing patterns. We wrote letters to and from Santa during Aistear.
Maths:
We learned about 2D shapes (circle, square, rectangle, triangle). We created shape pictures and went on a shape walk around the school. We followed instructions to place objects in certain positions. We practiced our number rhymes.
Gaeilge:
We learned lots of new Irish vocabulary based on Sa Bhaile (Home) agus Nollaig (Christmas). We listened to the stories “Cinnín Óir agus na Trí Bhéar” agus “An Nollaig”. We also performed part of our Carol Service as Gaeilge.
S.E.S.E.
We read the story of “The Nativity” and sketched three stages of the story into our copies. We discussed how Christmas is celebrated in Ireland and how it is celebrated around the world. We discussed ways to save energy and protect the environment at Christmas.
Art/Music:
We painted our dream homes and invited our parents in to see them. We did a variety of Christmas art. We performed our class Nativity and our Carol Service. The children did fantastic jobs and thank you to all for coming to see them.
Aistear:
Our Aistear theme for December was ‘Santa’s Workshop’. The children got an opportunity to play in each of the four stations: Imaginary Play (roleplay as Santa/Mrs. Clause, elves, reindeer etc.), Small World (Christmas village and small figures), Construction (designing and making toys for Santa’s workshop) and Creative Play (making Christmas cards).
S.P.H.E/P.E.:
We practiced passing a ball around body parts, rolling a ball, bouncing a ball, and throwing and catching a ball. We talked about how to be a good friend. We read stories on bullying and discussed ways to deal with bullying. We talked about the safety rules: Say No, Move Away and Tell.
Santa even popped by for a visit!
November fun!
Firstly you will see an art activity we tried with milk. You wouldn’t believe the effect it had when mixed with washing up liquid! Take a look. If you come to our Science Day we might even show you how we did it.
Secondly you will see pictures of our Bird Feeders. As the winter months are a very difficult time for our feathered friends we decided to make Bird Feeders. However as we love Science in our classroom we decided to try an experiment. We made six bird feeders out of different materials. We even made a lego bird feeder!! We are tracking our results at the moment. This is something else you will see on our Science Day 2016!
Finally you will see some constructions we made with paper folding. We explored the work of engineers and teacher gave us a chance to be an engineer!
We worked together to build a construction with four levels. However the construction had to balance an oreo on it! I have inserted a picture of the winning group! Thanks for watching. Stay tuned for our December activities! Coming soon………..
